Miscellaneous Pictures

The mini Great Wall shown below is to be found near the top of Longevity Hill - a short distance down (about 50m) to the east, on the lake side.

Tea Houses

There are many places within the Summer Palace where you can stop for a traditional chinese tea - and traditional snacks.

This restaurant is just behind the Long Corridor, on the north west side

Heavy red doors decorated with rows of nine brass bolts

Many of the pathways in the Summer Palace, such as the one that runs parallel to the Long Corridor, have edges decorated with pebbles that form pictures.

The Studio of Distant Views

Because the Studio of Distant Views (TiaoYuanZhai) is high on Longevity Hill and faces the northern outside street, Empress Dowager Cixi used to stand there to see the common people’s flower market on the eighth day of the fourth month of the chinese lunar calendar.
