Relaxing in the Summer Palace

As you walk back from the Grand Pavillion towards Longevity Hill you will pass The Bronze Ox.

According to ancient tradition, tying an ox near to a river bank or lake side could help prevent flooding. Gradually, tradition changed to make a depictional ox suffient for this purpose.

Eventually you will reach an island that is an ideal place to sit on a rock and relax, taking in views of all the main places you have just visited - plus the pagoda on YuQuan Hill ...

It is also a great place to have your photo taken ...

The Summer Palace also contains a number of tranquil small gardens within the area around Longevity Hill.
